Grief and trauma are the two biggest struggles women deal with as they go through their divorce. It's highly likely that you are experiencing both and don't even realize what you're feeling. I'm here to tell you that it's okay for you to grieve your marriage (even if it was shitty) and it's normal to be experiencing some kind of trauma (which is essentially a disconnection from yourself - your mind, body and soul). We're going to do that by reconnecting with yourself, creating lasting emotional resilience and living a truly independent life so that your life can be even better than when you were married. I'm your host, karin Nelson.

Welcome back to the podcast. My lovely ladies. I am so happy to be here. I enjoyed my two week break off from the podcast and I am back, ready to offer you some help, wisdom, guidance, whatever you want to call it as you go through your divorce. This week I am offering it does not take very long, but I think that it can be very powerful if it is something that resonates with you. So, again, I'm going to walk you through this just as if we were standing in the same room together and I was guiding you through this, through this.

So make sure that you are in a place, a space, a moment in time where you can be by yourself, where you can stand up or sit comfortably and where you can either close your eyes, if that feels comfortable, or at least pay attention to yourself for just a few moments. Make sure you're not driving, because you might want to close your eyes, and that would not be great and make sure that you feel safe in your surroundings enough that you can focus on your inner self and really allow yourself to reconnect with what's going on inside your body, which is one of the whole reasons that we ground ourselves is so that we can be present in what's going on for us right now inside your body, which is one of the whole reasons that we ground ourselves is so that we can be present in what's going on for us right now inside our body. We're trying to listen and reconnect our mind, our body and our intuition. All right, so this grounding technique is called centered hands. You can do the standing or sitting. So before we get started, I'm going to walk you through it in about 10 seconds, but before we get started, just decide right now. Do I want to stand while I'm doing this or do I want to sit? I'm going to describe it in a standing position. If you would like to sit, please just modify what you hear me say, as you're sitting in a very comfortable position. All right, here we go. Stand tall and aligned and have your feet wider than your hips, just for stability. If it feels comfortable, close your eyes so that you can focus more on what is happening inside your body. However, it is totally okay for you to keep your focus soft and your eyes open, if that feels more comfortable. Comfortable.

Now, stretch your arms wide out to the side, almost as if you're stretching out wings. Keep your arms level with your shoulders as you stretch out to the side. Reach those fingertips out to the side. As you're stretching your arms out to the side, pay close attention to keeping your head in alignment with your spine, resisting the urge to tilt your head forward or your head back. And when you can't stretch out to the side any longer your fingertips are out so far, very slowly, bring your arms toward the center of your chest and as you do this, curl your fingers in so that your fingertips are leading the way toward the center of your chest and bring your hands toward each other.

Now, there's three different options here that you can do. Once your hands come to the center and meet, you can choose to have your hands touch each other. You can fold them into a prayer position, or you can rest them next to each other on your chest. Choose one that resonates with you right now and perhaps the next time you try this you can try a different position. It's possible that each position for you will have a different effect on what you notice in your body and allowing you to feel safety exactly where you're at right now. Be curious and be you to feel safety exactly where you're at right now. Be curious and be willing to experiment what feels right to you.

Focus on your hands and the meeting point. What does it feel like when your fingertips are touching? Notice the sensations of your hands resting on your chest. We're going to take five slow, deep breaths. As you take these five breaths, notice how your hands and your chest move with the breath.

Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out. Notice how, when you touch your hands, your body begins to feel centered. Take notice of your lower belly. Take notice of your feet touching the ground. Take notice of your overall body and see if anything stands out. You can now drop your arms to your sides, take a breath in and a breath out. Something to be curious about, once you've finished this grounding technique, is to take notice of what your internal experience was like and take notice if you feel grounded or if you feel that there is something else that needs to be met within you and you need to go through this technique again. I hope that was helpful for you. All right, my friends, thank you so much for being here. I will be back next week.
